Things to Consider in Clear Aligner (Invisalign) Treatment
Insert and remove your clear aligners carefully, as demonstrated by your dentist. The letter “U” is indicated on your upper aligner, while the letter “L” is indicated on your lower aligner. Please place the correct aligner on the correct arch.
Do not bring your teeth into contact until you are sure that your clear aligners are fully seated. Otherwise, fractures or cracks may occur in the aligners.
When removing your clear aligners, gently apply pressure by placing your fingernail between the gum and the edge of the aligner from the inner parts of the aligner (both the right and left sides).
Wear your clear aligners for the number of days recommended by your dentist. Avoid using them for fewer or more days than prescribed.
Make sure to wear your clear aligners for at least 20 hours a day, except during eating, tooth brushing, and drinking hot beverages.
When placing your clear aligners in their box, do not stack them on top of each other. Place them side by side by interlocking them.
You may consume beverages that are not hot while wearing your clear aligners. Hot beverages are not recommended, as they can alter the aligner’s form.
To prevent damage to the aligner, it is essential not to eat anything, including snacks, while wearing clear aligners.
Brushing your teeth after eating and then wearing your aligner helps prevent discoloration and odor in the aligner.
In cases where brushing is not possible after eating, and discoloration or an unpleasant odor is observed in the aligner, it can be cleaned under running cold tap water using liquid soap and a toothbrush not previously used with toothpaste. When brushing your teeth is not possible, we recommend at least rinsing your mouth with water before placing your aligner.
Discoloration may occur as a result of smoking while wearing clear aligners. However, this will not pose a significant problem, as the aligners are replaced with new ones every 7–14 days.
During the first week of clear aligner treatment, your speech may be slightly affected. However, improvement will be observed as you become accustomed to the aligners.
In the early stages of clear aligner treatment, it is normal to experience some pain due to the pressure created by the aligner in the mouth. In such cases, you may use the pain reliever recommended by your dentist.
Do not discard your clear aligners after their usage period has ended. Please store the expired aligner in the aligner bag provided to you, paying attention to the number indicated on the clear aligner pouch.
After switching to the next aligner, do not forget to perform the chewing exercise as demonstrated by your dentist using the aligner chewies provided to you, 2–3 times a day during the first 2–3 days.
If any of the attachments bonded to your teeth at the beginning of your clear aligner treatment fall off, please inform your dentist by calling them.
If you develop a cold sore, please call our clinic and inform the staff, even if it is the day of your appointment.
Your clear aligners are made of polyurethane, which consists of methylene diphenyl diisocyanate and 1,6-hexanediol. They do not contain Bisphenol-A or phthalates, substances used in baby bottles and plastic bottles that have been banned by Canada, the USA, and the European Union due to their association with various health concerns. Therefore, you can use your clear aligners safely.
